Women who come to my practice near Mississauga seeking breast implants are often interested in the new generation of cohesive silicone gel breast implants. I find this type of implant material superior to others for several reasons, including:
- Cohesive silicone gel implants create the most natural-looking results. Most of my patients want their breasts to look and feel as natural as possible. For this reason, I strongly recommend silicone implants. The weight and texture of cohesive silicone gel closely resembles natural breast tissue. This gives the breasts a softer feel and creates a very authentic-looking result.
- Silicone implants are long lasting. Newer silicone implants have a much longer lifespan than traditional saline implants. That’s because the cohesive gel is highly durable and less prone to folding, wrinkling, or rupturing. These implants do not need to be replaced unless a complication arises, which means they could last several decades or even a lifetime in some women.
- Silicone implants are less likely to show visible rippling than saline implants. Many factors influence the possibility of rippling, such as the amount of breast tissue a woman has, the skin thickness, and where the implant is placed. One way to minimize the risk of rippling is to choose silicone gel implants. Because the implants are form-stable and retain their shape, they are much less likely to cause visible wrinkling.
